Calculate GATE percentile 2013

As everyone knows GATE scores are used for M.Tech (other master degrees in Engineering) and percentiles tells you where you stand. Please don’t confuse yourself with percentage.
Percentile is a relative term and tells where you stand in a set of people. For example, if you have 99.95 percentile in GATE means that your score or marks are above 99.95% student who took GATE exam.
Whereas, percent is a relative and measured on the scale of 100, it means that how many marks you got out of 100. This is not a measure of GATE performance. Therefore, don’t worry if someone says you that they go 99.9X score and think that it is beyond your capacity. To answer how to find GATE percentile please read the below formula and example carefully.
The GATE percentile is calculated as follows:
P = ( (N- your rank)/ N) x 100
Where P is percentile and N is total number of candidates appeared for exam.
(N- Your rank) indicates the number of candidates who have scored less marks than you.
For example, if total number of candidates are 100 and 90 of them have less marks than you P = (09/100)X100 = 0.9×100 = 90 percentile.
For another example: A guy form Mechanical Engineering have All India Rank (AIR) 99 and total number of student of students appeared for GATE in Mechanical Engineering are 59338 in 2010. Then his percentile would be calculated as
P = ((59338-99)/ 59338) X 100
= (59239/59338) X 100
= (0.9983) X 100
= 99.83
The candidate has 99.83 percentile.
As the competition grown too high, refer to GATE 2010 analysis, percentile not used for admissions anymore. As score is calculated on 1000 scale it gives a bit clear understanding and make admission process easy. Therefore Score is taken into consideration these days. Please refer to what is valid GATE Score to know more about GATE Scores. Do check for more information of GATE and M.Tech Admissions.

Percentile Calculation of CUTOFF Percentile - JEE Advanced 2013

CBSE has released FAQs about the normalization of Score in JEE Main 2013 which will help the candidates to have a better understanding of merit list preparation and score generation.
CLICK HERE to see the process of detailed calculation of Percentile Marks
The FAQs are as follows:
Q1. What will be the CBSE Normalization of Board Score based on JEE Main and Board Score?
Ans1. The normalized Board Score will be based on candidates’ position in Board i.e. the percentile score of a candidate. Candidates’ Board Percentile will mainly contribute to Normalized Score as per CBSE Normalization.
Q2. I wasn’t able to do well in JEE Main 2013 but my Board exams were good, would I be able to qualify for JEE Advanced 2013 after getting weightage of Normalized Board Marks?
Ans2. NO, the normalized Board marks will be ONLY for deciding JEE Main ranking. As per CBSE Normalization, this will be used for admission in all Central Funded Technical Institutions: CFTIs, NITs, IIITs excluding IITs.
Q3. As mentioned in the earlier notifications of CBSE Normalization, 5 subjects will be considered for percentile calculation and normalization which are: 1 – Language, 2 – Physics, 3 – Mathematics, 4 – Chemistry (any one of Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology and Computer Science), 5 – Any Elective or Language. Can Computer Science this FIFTH subject as I have already taken the subject of Chemistry from the PCM Science group?
Ans3. YES. The 5th Subject can also be any of the FOUR subjects which are given after S. No. 4 above. However, no subject can be REPEATED for CBSE Normalization.
Q4. I have taken 5 subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science. As Computer Science will fall under same Science Group, can it be considered as FIFTH Subject?
Ans4. YES. As per the norms of CBSE Normalization in this case, Computer Science will be treated as FIFTH Subject.
Q5. If I score well in Sixth Subject then can it be counted in place of the subjects of Mathematics, Physics, and at least ONE from Biology/Chemistry/Biotechnology/Computer Science?
Ans5. NO. The required subjects should meet the eligibility criteria, i.e. One language, Mathematics, Physics, One from Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Computer Science and any one Language or Elective.
Q6. In my Board Exam, I have only 4 subjects, whereas CBSE Normalization has specified 5 subjects in the scheme of Science Study for admissions in NITs, IIITs. Will I be considered?
Ans6. It has been made an exception for this year only. Candidates with 4 subjects will ALSO be considered given that their subject combination satisfies JEE Main Eligibility.
Q7. In the CBSE Normalization procedure document released earlier by the Board the symbol Bhas not been used anywhere for Normalization.
Ans7. Brefers to the marks obtained by candidates in their Board, and forms the basis for calculating percentile (P). Therefore, Bis just a base value to calculate the percentile score which must be secured to get corresponding JEE Main 2013 marks.
Q8. In order to qualify for admission in IITs, what should be the minimum score in class XII as per CBSE Normalization?
Ans8. All the queries of such kind will be handled by JEE Advanced and should be sent to: jeeadv@admin.iitd.ac.in.
Q9. CBSE also has grading procedure for some subjects such as Work Experience etc, will these grades be considered for 5th subject while CBSE Normalization of scores?
Ans9. NO. Such subjects will not be considered for normalization.
Q10. I have taken the Class XII exam with the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, English Core, Mathematics and Computer Science. Is this subject combination right for JEE Main 2013?
Ans10. Yes.
Q11. My Board’s Score is 423 out of 500 and my JEE Main score for Paper 1 is 180. What will be my normalized marks for JEE Main as per CBSE Normalization?
Ans11. The normalization will be based on candidates’ percentile rank within his/her Board. The equivalent percentile marks of JEE Main and JEE Main Percentile of that Board will be considered on the basis of Board Percentile Score. As per CBSE Normalization, every candidate has to know marks of all the students of that Board, marks of all students of same Board in JEE Main and marks of all the students of all the Boards in JEE Main exam.
Percentile Calculation:
JEE Main or Board percentile will reflect what percentage of candidates have secured below that candidate in THAT Board or JEE Main Exam. e.g. 20th Percentile is value below which 20% of observations can be found.
The Percentile can be calculated as:
100 X (Number of candidates in the “Group” with aggregate marks less than candidate/ Total Number of candidates in the “group”).
Suppose there are 13711 candidates in a Board and a candidate who has scored 60% of Board Marks has 6865 below him/her. Then the percentile score will be calculated as:
Percentile score for 60% of Board Marks= (6865/13711) X 100
Percentile= 50.07
